she's got a house full of flowers
and nowhere to put them
since she ran out of vases and jars

she's got lilies and orchids
tulips and roses
from her front door to her backyard

they arrive every hour
from family and friends
with condolences and cards

she'll carry them out
one by one
and put them in the back of her car

she will drive to the place
where her lover is laid
and leave them just as they are

she'll sleep tonight
in the perfume of flowers
while he sleeps under the stars
